To the editor: Maine’s 1st District Race In June we will be voting in a very important primary election to select the Democratic candidate to succeed Tom Allen in the United States House of Representatives. Michael Brennan is an outstanding candidate for this position. I have had the privilege of knowing Michael as a friend and colleague for close to fifteen years. Throughout that time Michael has consistently impressed me with his integrity and commitment to issues that matter most to regular people.

I urge you to look at Michael’s positions on health care, women’s rights, the war in Iraq, renewable energy and education. I believe you will find a progressive and energetic leader who will help bring about the kind of change so desperately needed and wanted by most of us. Of course stating positions is the easy part. The hard part is getting results.

I have witnessed Michael at work throughout his legislative career, including his stint as Senate majority leader. Michael works hard, knows how to build coalitions, and leads with respect for others and a sense of humor. Your vote is important and private. I only ask that you get to know Michael Brennan as a candidate, and if you come to share my high opinion of him, support his candidacy and certainly consider voting for him on June 10.

    Dear Michael
You were kind enough to call me to ask for my support. At that time I was supporting Chellie Pingree. Following my attendance at the Maine Democratic Convention and hearing your speech compared to the other candidates I have revised my opinion.
Happy to say I will be supporting you on June10.
    Good luck
