A Note from Representative Jill Conover

Dear friends and neighbors:

As a woman, mother of a young child, community member, and policymaker, I am deeply concerned about the future or our state, nation, and world. During these complex and challenging times, I believe Michael Brennan is the best choice to represent the people of Maine’s 1st Congressional District.

We are fortunate to have a full slate of good Democratic candidates running for the seat being vacated by Congressman Tom Allen, who we are grateful in November will return progressive leadership to the U.S. Senate. But among the many choices on the primary ballot June 10, one is best - Michael Brennan.

Brennan is best because we need a new direction and he will deliver on smart, strategic change to move our state and country forward. While Washington insiders tout change as a popular catchword, Michael means it. He has spent the last 30 years as an activist, advocate, researcher, teacher, social worker, state legislative leader, husband, father and friend working to build a better Maine. Brennan is best because he understands the challenges Maine’s working families and middle class face as we attempt to balance our necessity checkbooks: struggling to keep up with the mortgage, pay health care expenses, and keep food on the table, our homes heated and fuel in our cars so that we can get to work. He understands that a good college education for our children is essential to their and our future, and that they shouldn’t have to become overloaded with debt in order to graduate and obtain good-paying jobs.

Brennan is best because he is an inspirational leader, sincere in his beliefs and our shared values, who we can trust — not just to do the popular thing, but to do the right thing, for the right reasons. Michael is best because he has the courage and ability to effectively stand up against special interests and bring our voice to the table. And Michael is best because he is a proven problem-solver and uniter who will put forward real solutions that will make a difference to ordinary Mainers — who we can trust to do right by all people, not just some people.

We need to demand more of our elected officials. We can and must do better. We can achieve quality, affordable health care for all and with Michael Brennan in Congress I am hopeful we will. We can end tax credits to American corporations who ship jobs overseas and with Brennan in Congress I am hopeful we will. We can we achieve wise, environmentally sustainable energy policy and with Michael in Congress I am hopeful we will. We can and must end the war in Iraq and invest in solving challenges here at home and with Michael Brennan in Congress, I am hopeful we will.
